One splits so easily into dialogue with them. “But Only Dream Knows“ is an exhibition that revolves around Alice Notley´s writing. It doesn´t seek answers or definitions of dreams. It creates a space where one is simultaneously part of and apart from oneself – a vivid present without a recent past.

The works in this exhibition echo an exploration of the unseen and unknown, where personal and collective histories intertwine with the unconscious mind. These works are fragments – small, flickering pieces of memory, feeling and perception. They can‘t be held onto but still resonate.

Through fragments, layers and traces of what is forgotten or never fully understood, the exhibition brings together these fleeting moments. Organic forms explore the rhythm of the unseen, where internal logic reveals itself in delayed and unsynchronized ways.

With blurred vision, everything around begins to warp, faint sounds hum in the ear, scale distorts in space, an elusive sense of time unfolds. The boundaries between conscious perception and dreamlike states begin to blur.

Mike Kelley writes in his notes: The dream state made material One can becom dreamy Strange tough how The ideal is calm The actual is chaos
